Farmers wishing to avail the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Kharif Crop Insurance Scheme have to notify the bank branch by July 31, 2020.

Crop insurance is voluntary. To protect crops from natural calamities, the central government has launched the Pradhan Mantri Pak Vima Yojana. It was launched on January 13, 2016. The scheme is run by the Indian Agricultural Insurance Company.

Under the PM crop insurance scheme, farmers have to pay a premium of 2 per cent for kharif crop and 1.5 per cent for rabi crop. The insurance scheme also provides insurance cover for commercial and horticultural crops. However, farmers have to pay a premium of 5 per cent.
Kisan credit card holders will be insured themselves

Farmers who have borrowed crops from Kisan Credit Card have their crops automatically covered by the insurance rule. However the farmer can insure the crop at his discretion. Crops can also be insured at public service centers.
